Central Police University Establishes the " Research Center for Intelligent Technology and Law Enforcement"
Promoting Smart Policing and Combating Emerging Crimes

On April 25, 2025, Central Police University officially inaugurated the Research Center for Intelligent Technology and Law Enforcement and hosted the accompanying Smart Technology Law Enforcement Forum. Speaking at the ceremony, Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior, Wu Tang-an, stated that the rapid advancement of technology has led to increasingly complex and diverse forms of crime, such as online fraud, money laundering, data breaches. These threats pose growing challenges to public safety, property security, and social trust. To effectively response to these issues, law enforcement agencies must strengthen their technological capacity and enforcement capabilities. The newly established Research Center for Intelligent Technology and Law Enforcement reflects CPU’s commitment to forward-looking education and research in smart policing. It is expected to serve as a national think tank for technology-based crime prevention, supporting police agencies in improving enforcement quality and operational efficiency.

The establishment of the Research Center for Intelligent Technology and Law Enforcement marks a significant step by Central Police University in integrating theoretical knowledge with practical expertise to enhance capabilities in crime prevention and law enforcement. It symbolizes a new phase for Taiwan in combating emerging forms of high-tech crime. The center will integrate emerging technologies with law enforcement applications, focusing on areas such as big data analytics, AI-driven tools, virtual currency flow analysis, and drone deployment. By developing highly operational and targeted enforcement models, the center aims to boost agencies’ crime-fighting effectiveness and provide data-driven safety policy recommendations. These efforts will help ensure that Taiwan's policing remain professional, adaptive, and responsive to technological change.

The forum featured four key themes: Technological Investigation Techniques and Practices, Smart Policing Applications, Smart Firefighting and Disaster Prevention Applications, and Trends in Technology-Based Law Enforcement. Experts from academia and practical fields shared the latest research findings and discussed strategies for applying intelligent technologies to public safety work. Looking ahead, the Ministry of the Interior will continue to support Central Police University in advancing smart policing initiatives. This effort is part of a broader push to modernize Taiwan’s public safety system and enhance its ability to protect lives, property, and social stability.
